A Night On A Trawler

One of the main purposes of my trip around Australia, was to discover and experience new things. I was very lucky to be invited aboard a fishing trawler near where I was staying. The skipper and his younger brother run the trawler for another family. I was asked not to use their names, as the trawler crews do get criticized for the by catch that they bring in.

The trawlers don’t want by catch, as that just reduces the fish or prawns that they are after. But it does happen.

I personally could not go out on a trawler again, as watching the net come in and the catch get dumped on the table, I felt sick seeing some of the beautiful sea creatures I get to see while diving laying on that catch table dying.

I stopped taking photos and started to get them back overboard as quickly as I could. So you will not be seeing any photos of the catch on this blog, as I couldn’t even look at them myself again.

So my photos on this trip are about life at sea and the creatures we came across
